The Road to Peter's Field

Peterloo Battle

Protesters from across the North West of England marched to St Peter's Field in Manchester on 16th August 1819. They marched under banners crying 'Liberty' and 'Fraternity'. These working people believed they were due a better life, with representation, freedom and the right to be heard. They were cut down by the mounted Manchester and Salford Yeomanry.
